Dear St. Andrew Congregation, August 2017
Thank You: To all of those who have stepped up and in and served as a worship helper or filled in somewhere in the church and for all of those who have prayed for St. Andrew, the Board and all individual members through celebrations, surgeries, recovery and wherever needed. Prayer is a powerful resource and we should never overlook it.
Transition: Our God is a God of change. He is calling us to change all of the time. Our “job” is to listen and be willing to follow the direction and the path and then to do so. We are to be about loving and worshiping our God and loving our neighbor as ourselves. Especially in this time of transition, we all need to be praying and working to be the hands of the Lord.
Isaiah 43:18-19: Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
Joint Task Force: The Joint Task Force team, for St. Andrew, your Task Force Members are: Jorie Hughes, Paula Kummer, Lane Ongstad, Hope Whitaker and Pastor Eileen Spehr and for Shepherd King, Task Force Members are: Barbara Alvarado, Carl Hansen, Shirley Hormuth, Eric Owre, and Pastor Kristine Franke-Hill. Joint Task Force Team (St. Andrew and Shepherd King) met on June 13, 2017 for their first meeting and then again on July 10, 2017! We are working together to bring more of our members together for fellowship and with the goal of eventually worshipping all together all of the time beginning in the new “church year” which begins the first Sunday in Advent. Meantime, work together to build the friendships and working relationships to bring us all together.
Vacation Bible School (VBS): June 19-23, 2017 were the dates for VBS this year. The celebration culminated on Sunday, June 25, 2017 with the presentation of A Technicolor Promise and St. Andrew and Shepherd King all worshipped together on this day. As I said at that service, “WOW”. The children did a fantastic job! Learning all of those songs and moves in just a week was amazing! Worshipping all together was wonderful and we hope to do it again more and more!!!!!
Other Upcoming Opportunities in the works to Fellowship and Worship with Shepherd King:

Upcoming Music Ministry: I know it is 100 plus degrees outside and we are talking about Christmas already! Both music groups (St. Andrew and Shepherd King) will be working together to present the Christmas Cantata! The latest in Russell Mauldin’s repertoire of Christmas Cantatas is entitled “Oh Little Town of Bethlehem” and both choirs and all of you who are interested in singing for Christmas this year are invited to join!!
Calling all Volunteers: Even though it is summer, remember we still need greeters, ushers, communion assistants, and readers to run our worship service. Ask not what your church can do for you, ask what you can do for your church. If you would like training or more information, please see me or any Board member or call the church office today.
Music Ministry: We are gearing up the Alleluia Choir and our Heaven’s Bells. Both groups will start rehearsing again this month. The Bells will return to rehearsal on August 9 at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary (remember Bells fellowship hour is right before that at 12:00 noon) as well. The Alleluia Choir will start rehearsing again on August 21, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary.
The Board: We continue to work the day to day issues and working on the finalization of the sale of the building. Please see any of us Board members with questions or concerns.
In His Service,
Jorie Hughes,Volunteer and St. Andrew Lutheran Church Board President
