CALLING ALL LADIES TO BRING YOUR BOOTS, BLING & BIBLES:  Southwestern Texas Synod-Women of the ELCA 30th Annual Convention will be held September 29 - October 1, 2017 at the YO Ranch Hotel in Kerrville, Texas.  This years theme:  You will go out in JOY.  Regular registration is $125.  Hotel rooms aregoing fast.  Room rates go from $99 to $129,  breakfast buffet is include in the room rate.  Pastor Eileen will be one of the Saturday Workshop presenters.  Donations will be collected for CAM Ministries.  Please see the attached registration form and flyer for more details.

Mark the date for the ELCA GOD’S WORK, OUR HANDS day of service on Sunday, September 10, 2017.  San Antonio churches are planning to work together to celebrate who we are as the ELCA-one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. 

Exploring the Bible as Literature, Part 2 will be taught by Pastor Kris Hill of Shepherd King Lutheran Church at Oblate School of Theology on September 5, 12, 19, 26 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.  Please see the table under the SALC bulletin board for more information.

Reformation 500:  In this year of celebrating the 500th Year of the Reformation we will be including informational bulletin inserts in our Sunday Bulletins beginning in August.  On September 10 we will celebrate Rally Day with a Reformation theme.  More information to come in the September Newsletter.

On Tuesday, October 31, ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton will co-host a commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.  The event, which will include a worship service and speakers, will be held at Lutheran Church of the Reformation on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.  Eaton will be joined by co-hosts ELCA Vice President Bill Horne, Bishop Bill Gafkjen of Indiana-Kentucky Synod and Bishop Richard Graham of the Metropolitan Washington D.C. Synod.  The event, which will meet under the theme “Looking Back and Called Forward,” will be available online via livestream for all to watch.  More details will be available in the near future.

The San Antonio Bus Station Ministry provides Welcome Backpacks for mothers and their children as they leave detention sites is south Texas and journey to homes of family or friends. Pastor Eileen has been part of this project since it started and invites you to help her fill fifty backpacks. The backpacks contain personal hygiene items and food snacks. If you would like to help with backpacks or donations or the snack items, any of these items are appreciated. We will pack the backpacks on Rally Day.
